Audio-Visual Collections
The Archive of the Robert J. Dole Institute of Politics houses approximately 875 videotapes, 34 reels of 16 mm. film, 20 reels of 8 mm film, 120 U-matic and Beta tapes and approximately 300 audio cassette tapes relating to the personal life and political career of Robert J. Dole, (1923- ).
The audio-video collection spans the years 1943-2008 and contains images and sound recordings relating to Robert J. Dole's youth, family members, military service, legal career as Russell Kansas County Attorney, four campaigns for the U.S. House of Representatives, the eight years spent as congressman from Kansas' 6th and later 1st Congressional Districts (1961-1968), his subsequent 28 year Senate career (1968-1996), and post-Senate years.
Other individuals who appear in the audio cassette tapes, videos and films include American presidents and foreign heads of state, senators, legislators and dignitaries, TV personalities as well as constituents and staffers.
The Videotape collection includes interviews, speeches, debates, and political advertisements.
Of special interest in the Audiotape collection are 120 audio cassette tapes in Record Series: Press Files (1975-1988) that include radio programs, press conferences, debates, discussions, hearings and meetings. Included in this series is the radio series entitled “Face Off” (4/16/1984-11/10/1987) featuring Senator Robert Dole
