Dole Senate Papers
The Dole Senate Papers contain 2,038 linear feet of records generated in the Dole Senate and Majority Leader’s office from 1968-19996. The majority of these records are currently closed to the public with various sections to be made available to the public in 2011 and 2016. Researchers who wish to gain access to the papers before they are open to the general public can do so by requesting permission in advance. Please contact Morgan R. Davis, Senior Archivist at mrd@ku.edu for more information.
These records are divided into four series:
Series
- Administrative
- Legislative
- Press
- Personal/Political
Administrative records contain the files generated in support of the normal operations of the Senate office, as well as the routine duties associated with a Senate office. Typical materials found in this series include bill files, briefing books, constituent correspondence, military appointments, nominations and office management files.
The bulk of the Legislative series is composed of the files generated by legislative staff in Senator Dole’s offices. These will be arranged by staff member and then by topic. Topics that are heavily referenced in the Legislative series include disability issues, agriculture and social security. This series also includes briefing books, voting records and reference materials.
The Press series contains published and un-published material written by Senator Dole, such as: press releases, columns, newsletter, opinion/editorials and transcripts of television and radio appearances.
This series contains Senator Dole’s correspondence with other members of congress and executive branch, schedules, appointment books and political files.
